Pullback permanence in a non-autonomous competitive Lotka–Volterra model

چکیده
The goal of this work is to study in some detail the asymptotic behaviour of a nonautonomous Lotka–Volterra model, both in the conventional sense (as t-N) and in the ‘‘pullback’’ sense (starting a fixed initial condition further and further back in time). The nonautonomous terms in our model are chosen such that one species will eventually die out, ruling out any conventional type of permanence. In contrast, we introduce the notion of ‘‘pullback permanence’’ and show that this property is enjoyed by our model. This is not just a mathematical artifice, but rather shows that if we come across an ecology that has been evolving for a very long time we still expect that both species are represented (and their numbers are bounded below), even if the final fate of one of them is less happy. The main tools in the paper are the theory of attractors for non-autonomous differential equations, the subsupersolution method and the spectral theory for linear elliptic equations. r 2002 Elsevier Science (USA). Forwards and pullback behaviour of a non-autonomous Lotka-Volterra system
Lotka-Volterra systems have been extensively studied by many authors, both in the autonomous and non-autonomous cases. In previous papers the time asymptotic behaviour as t → ∞ has been considered. In this paper we also consider the “pullback” asymptotic behaviour which roughly corresponds to observing a system “now” that has already been evolving for a long time. For a competitive system that ...
متن کاملPermanence and stability in multi-species non-autonomous Lotka-Volterra competitive systems with delays and feedback controls
In this paper, we consider a multi-species Lotka–Volterra type competitive system with delays and feedback controls. A general criteria on the permanence is established, which is described by integral form and independent of feedback controls. By constructing suitable Lyapunov functionals, a set of easily verifiable sufficient conditions are derived for global stability of any positive solution...
متن کاملPermanence and Asymptotically Stable Complete Trajectories for Nonautonomous Lotka-Volterra Models with Diffusion
Lotka-Volterra systems are the canonical ecological models used to analyze population dynamics of competition, symbiosis or prey-predator behaviour involving different interacting species in a fixed habitat. Much of the work on these models has been within the framework of infinite-dimensional dynamical systems, but this has frequently been extended to allow explicit time dependence, generally ...
متن کاملDynamics in a Competitive Lotka-volterra Predator-prey Model with Multiple Delays
In this paper, we investigate a discrete competitive Lotka-Volterra predatorprey model with multiple delays. For general non-autonomous case, sufficient conditions which ensure the permanence and the global stability of the system are derived by applying the differential inequality theory; For periodic case, sufficient conditions which guarantee the existence of an unique globally stable positi...
متن کاملPERMANENCE IN NONAUTONOMOUS DISCRETE LOTKA–VOLTERRA n-SPECIES COMPETITIVE SYSTEMS WITH PURE-DELAYS AND FEEDBACK CONTROLS
The paper discusses nonautonomous discrete Lotka–Volterra type n-species competitive systems with pure-delays and feedback controls. New sufficient conditions for which a part of the n-species remains permanent and others is driven to extinction are established by using the method of multiple discrete Lyapunov functionals and introducing new analysis technique. Our results show that the feedbac...
